Symantec Uncovers the True Purpose of Stuxnet Code

Researchers from Symantec, manufacturers of computer virus protection products like Norton Antivirus and Norton Internet Security 2010, have made another significant step forward in solving the mystery of the Stuxnet worm, which recently hobbled a nuclear power plant in Iran. Thanks to the ongoing investigation, the malware is now known to target control systems found in nuclear power plants especially, rather than in other factory controls.

Huge Fall in Spam Recorded by Symantec

There’s some good news breaking in the fight against cybercrime: spam volumes virtually halved between August and the end of October 2010. That’s the finding from Symantec’s hosted services unit (previously known as MessageLabs), and it seems to be closely related to some major takedowns of organized cybercrime networks in several countries. Analysis by the IT security giant, which manufactures award winning computer virus protection products such as Norton Antivirus and internet security tools like Norton Internet Security 2010, shows that spam volumes plummeted to their lowest level since 2009, a precipitous drop of 47%.
